that wildly disappointing film calls "love and labels

Général — Par jiangsu @ 04:54

And here's more good news: With the economy tanking, haven't you noticed how gross and ridiculous die outward displays of vulgar wealth are looking these days? Somehow, $3,000 handbags and $1,000 shoes don't seem chic any more-they seem gross and dumb. (That's only part of why the new Sex and the City movie is such a bomb.)Anyway, if you don't believe me, and you're still obsessed with what that wildly disappointing film calls "love and labels," then head for Express, where exact replicas of those lush flower prints that Prada launched in its resort line are available, made up as strapless dresses, fauxdowdy pleated skirts silver cufflinks (a Prada specialty), and even elongated clutch purses and high-waisted T-shirts. The dresses top out at $128, but don't be discouraged: The clutch is only $49.50, and the tees are a lovely $29.50. (I'd like to think that Miuccia Prada-who, like me, spent her youth handing out socialist leaflets and thinking shamefacedly about clothes-would approve of these cheerful reproductions.)

And speaking of knockofls, Forever 21, so prodigious in this arena that if s being named in lawsuits by Anna Sui and Diane von Furstenberg, has a cotton top decorated with fake jewels in a splotchy ethnic print highly reminiscent of Dries Van Noten for $19.80. It's less easy to trace the "inspiration" behind an elongated pink cotton-knit undershirt trimmed with lace and a grosgrain ribbon that gives off an ineffable sexy-granny vibe and is $13.80.Even if you think H&M stands for Hastily Made & Middlebrow, there are, as ever, some offerings that are hard to resist A khaki bag sporting huge gold dots that I would personally consider carrying-which is saying a lot-is a happy silver earrings $14.90. There's also a healthy selection of flip-flops, including a pair in pink with jeweled straps for $7.90. (Question: Why do people spend a fortune on something like Jimmy Choo flip-flops when only the straps show anyway? Better to spend the money on a summer's worth of pedicures, no?)

If, unlike the presumed customer at Old Navy, who spends the entire summer flopping around at the shore, you silver key rings actually have to go to work in the hot weather, there are a couple of dresses at Uniqlo by the designer Juliana Jabour, who created these frocks as part of something Uniqlo calls its "Designer Invitation Project." They're $49.90-so, not/the cheapest things in the world-but they're made of a particular luscious jersey, they have a Lanvin-ish air, and most important, they're black.

including a rose gold mesh bracelet circa 1880

Some women lose sleep over their love of designer clothes; for others, accessories are to a look what frosting is to a cupcake: indispensable, endlessly interesting, and inspiring a degree reduced tiffany earrings of obsession. January Jones, star of the breakout series Mad Men, based on the Madison Avenue advertising industry in the sixties, falls firmly into the latter category. Case in point: She opens the door to her North Hollywood house wearing jeans, a black sleeveless top, and several exquisite pieces of vintage jewelry, including a rose gold mesh bracelet circa 1880 (a gift from her boyfriend); a late-nineteenth-century platinum pinkie ring she found in a favorite haunt in Los Angeles; and another, made from an ancient Egyptian coin, bought on a vacation in Germany. So much does Jones adore antique jewelry that she's started designing her own line of "modernized versions of vintage pieces" sold in boutiques in Chicago and Miami, as well as on her Web site, januaryjonesjewelry.com.

She leads the way to her closet, where shoes (many vintage, too, because she's small and can fit into them), handbags, belts, headbands, scarves, hats, and even a wig--"for auditions when I'm supposed to be more exotic"--take pride of place. She's very happy to get fitted out for big nights in Stella McCartney, Miu Miu, or Dolce & Gabbana, whose elegant, ballet-peach corseted dress she wore to collect an Emmy for the series in September. But on her own time, she says, "I prefer to spend my money on something that's going to last for more than just a trend." Thus, reduced tiffany pendants she pulls out "a Chanel handbag I splurged on," another by Ferragamo in purple ("one of my favorite colors"), and bright-red patent Manolo Blahniks she wore with a short, stripey shirtdress she picked up at a vintage store in the Valley, a black beaded scarf with mallard feathers from the flea market on Fairfax tied around her head. "I like to wear vintage with expensive accessories, or vice versa," she explains. "Often I'll go classic and then add something kind of wild to make it my own."

The result is that Jones has great, original style, layering several vintage belts over a tank and jeans (she favors Adriano Goldschmied, Rich & Skinny, and the hard-to-find Current/Elliot The Boyfriend jeans) or risk-taking in a turquoise-and-pink-print strapless vintage jumpsuit "that I wear only in Miami or Vegas." She loves to customize, showing off a pair of black Urban Outfitters pants she had a shoe-mender adorn with studs. "I'm thrifty," she says cheerfully, a habit that began in her native Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where clothes shopping was limited to Western-apparel stores, JCPenney, and Goodwill. These days, though the high profile of the sale tiffany necklaces show certainly makes her eligible for a stylist, she resists hiring one so she can retain her own style--and have fun doing it.according to hitchcott, Beyala's success resides in an ability to constantly reinvent her own position as "tokenistic symbol of integration in France" so as to expose "the institutional limits of tolerance in postcolonial France" ("Calixthe Beyala: Prizes" 103, 108). Prior to reframing her media persona in the wake of the plagiarism scandal, however, Beyala refashions herself as a writer in The Little Prince of Belleville itself. In this, though with a multitude of critical differences, she again takes a page from Romain Gary.

IN Glen David Gold's second novel, those Army tanks that rouse a parade to patriotic fervor are made of plywood. That young man performing heroic feats imagines himself as the star of a film. Even in 1916, life was a movie. Set against the background of World discount tiffany bracelets War I, "Sunnyside" takes as its subject Charlie Chaplin and an America already infantilized by its thirst for entertainment. Yet Gold himself entertains. He has it both ways: the new world constructed by movies is both real and make-believe. In one scene, faced with a Chaplin impersonator, the actual Chaplin launches into an impersonation not of himself but of a Chaplin impersonator, and does a credible job of falling just short of being Charlie Chaplin.

Given a novel in which nearly everyone is a performer, including its author, it's tempting to ask who the "real" Chaplin is. Or is there such a thing? Gold's Chaplin will fascinate readers for any number of reasons: his charm, his intelligence, his insecurity, his fitful lurching back and forth between generosity and selfishness. Most of all, though, his appeal to our celebrity-obsessed culture stems from his presence at its inception. If there's any center to this sprawling novel, it's the drama of Chaplin negotiating a sense of self that is engineered by public expectations and dismantled by its own carping doubts."Sunnyside" teems with brilliant and inconclusive raw footage seemingly gleaned from the cutting-room floor. You can almost picture the light bulb clicking on in Gold's mind when he realizes he can organize his material as - yes! - a movie. Thus the novel's contents page, titled "This Evening's Entertainment," offers a newsreel, a travelogue, a two-reel comedy, a serial and "Our Feature Presentation," followed by a sing-along and credits. Gold's story runs continuously through these chapters, whose tongue-in-cheek headings would be merely cloying if the novel weren't so good. But readers are cautioned to be discount tiffany pendants patient: this weighty narrative, with its multiple beginnings, needs a long runway to take off.

On three occasions, Martin was confronted by his victims and lied about why he was inside their homes.

Cash amounts of between $1,000 to $7,000 were withdrawn from ATMs using cards and stolen PIN numbers.

Judge Frances Hogan told the court the stolen cash amounted to about $50,000 - and none of it had been recovered.

Martin pleaded guilty to 105 charges, including 41 counts of burglary, three of aggravated burglary, 48 counts of theft and 13 counts of obtaining property by deception.

The court was told he had an extensive criminal history of dishonesty offences which dated back to 1963.

His siblings became wards of the state, and he left school at 14 to work in the timber industry with his father.

Martin had worked as a greyhound trainer but accrued large debts and got into trouble with police.

"Your conduct strikes at the heart of every citizen's right to feel secure at home," Judge Hogan said.

In sentencing, she took into account Martin's willingness to plead guilty, his indications of remorse and failing health, which included heart disease, asthma and recent surgery for kidney cancer.

Judge Hogan sentenced Martin to seven years and eight months jail, and ordered he serve a minimum five years and five months before being eligible for parole.

age groups have travelled with the group

Imagine a group of women travelling together. What comes to your mind? Fun, laughter and lots of merriment. This is what Shireen Mehra, 30, experienced the first time she travelled with an all-women group. The memories of the trip were so unforgettable that she decided to start a women's travel network herself. This led to Women on Clouds, a Delhi-based outfit. The trips she organises tiffany keys are all about fun and adventure.

Women from various backgrounds and age groups have travelled with the group. We met a few of them at Mehra's office in Delhi's Gulmohar Park to know the network better. Along with Mehra were four other women bubbling with excitement and cherishing memories of their trip to Camp Redstone, Dehradun. Among them was Manasi Raina, a 28-year-old tarot card reader, tiffany notes Sudha Ahuja, a 55-year-old who runs a residential school in Dalhousie, Nina Saxena, a 35-year-old mother of two who used to be a doctor and Nithya Anand, a 33-year-old who is into international trade.

Anand's male friends were in buy tiffany necklaces a bit of shock when they learnt about this all-women travel network. "My friend actually asked if women bond so well," she says. Saxena shares another interesting reason to travel with the group. "One should also give husbands an opportunity to take care of the children," she says with a smile. When Saxena was travelling for the first time, her only concern was with whom she would have to share her room. Mehra tells us from her experience that Saxena is not the odd one out. "This is one issue where I get a lot of requests and questions. Once a woman said she doesn't want to share her room with a Delhiite. Also someone requested to be paired with a woman who was jovial, as she herself was very quiet," she says. Age, smoker or non-smoker, where they are coming from-these are some of the factors that Mehra keeps in mind before pairing the travellers, so that all of them have a comfortable trip.

the effectiveness of their maintenance program and quantifies

However, many times, the analysis tools to support the strategies and tactical decisions are so complex and time-consuming that managers default to their experience and biases rather than undertake meaningful and objective analyses of their program's effectiveness. "Riparian forest buffers established according to accepted conservation practice standards Frank Gehry Fish Pendant have been recommended as one of the most effective tools for mitigating nonpoint source pollution. The midwestern United States is characterized by many kilometers of narrow, naturally occurring forests along streams," investigators in the United States report.

"However, little is known about the relative effectiveness of these remnant forests compared with these newly established buffers. This study compared the ability of naturally occurring remnant forests with and without adjacent planted grass filters to buffer concentrated flow paths (CFPs) originating in crop fields along first- and second-order streams in three northeast Missouri watersheds. Remnant forests breached by runoff through CFPs were narrower than those that dispersed 100% of the CFPs. T&CO. triple drop pendant

You may have heard about the "Great Diamond Hoax of 1872" that took place in northwest Colorado. Much has been Elsa Peretti Open center cuff about this wild and woolly conspiracy, of which a good summary is given in Sinkankas (1997) and Colorado Geological Survey (1999).

Located approximately 5 miles west of Red Feather Lakes on Deadman Road, this remote prospect, in the Roosevelt Tiffany Cushion Two-row bracelet box lock pendant Forest, has yielded some terrific amethyst crystals and many faceted gems. You would have to read one of the earlier editions of Colorado GenT Trails (Pearl 1951) to find out about this locality, as it was omitted from the later edition (Pearl 1972). However, good descriptions of the locality are given by Michalski (1984), who describes most amethyst localities in Colorado, and Kile, Modreski, and Kile (1991). Geology of the deposit is distinctive. Veins and stringers of quartz, from white to pale purple, are interlaced in near-surface decomposed Precambrian granite. Note that the handsome cluster of amethyst crystals Atlas cube lock T&CO. triple drop pendant Charm bracelet on the May/June Tiffany Somerset Bangle cover of Rocks & Minerals, attributed to Red Feather Lakes, is actually from the Howard/Little Badger Creek locality in Fremont County north of the Arkansas River and not from Larimer County.

The amethysts from Red Feather Lakes are most interesting because, in addition to single crystals, they form doubly terminated crystals and scepters. The crystals typically are stubby prisms, about 1-3 inches long with a similar width, with several prism faces that are smooth and glossy but with others that are roughly frosted with limonitic inclusions. Most crystals are cloudy, but portions of some crystals are gem quality with a rich purple color. Years ago collectors had access to the area, then it was closed for many years when owned and operated as the Rainbow Lode by the late Atlas tag pendant Koenig, a local character well remembered in the area.Attention was drawn to the locality in the late 1980s, when Fort Collins mineral entrepreneurs Nick Van Geldren and others opened up one of the Elsa Peretti Open Wave pendant-bearing zones. Many fine crystals were unearthed in this endeavor, and good specimens, including a few gems, were made available to collectors and museums. As far as is known, the locality was back-filled and closed. Originally, amethyst-bearing seams were found 8-12 feet below the surface; however, excavation by Van Geldren with a backhoe reached some 25 feet down into the granite. Few pockets were found in place, and Elsa Peretti Sevillana pendant on Paloma Picasso Loving Heart bracelet were rare. I Love You lock charm crystals were collected by washing loose. single crystals out of excavated granite debris with a large hose and high-pressure nozzle.

Still a popular collecting area, Devils Head is reached by Rampart Range Road, approximately 21.5 miles south of Sedalia, Colorado. It is in the Pike National Forest and thus subject to U.S. Forest Service regulations. This well-known collecting area in the Pikes Peak Granite is famous for large topaz and quartz crystals and is documented by Elsa Peretti Double Open Heart bangle and Michalski (1996) and Raines (2001). Gem-collecting activities here date back to the 1880s, making them some of the earliest in the state. Two well-known field collectors, Ed Over and Art Montgomery, found a Graduated bead drop pendant for the record book in 1934what may be Colorado's largest well-formed topaz crystal. The fist-sized, pale brown, 2.3-pound crystal is 3.1 inches long on the c-axis and 3.2 x 4.3 inches on the prism sides. It resides in the Harvard Mineralogical Museum collection. Other museums have been recipients of large gems cut from Devils Head topaz: a 235-carat, sherry-colored, faceted stone in the Elsa Peretti Butterfly pendant Gehry Fish pendant to Toggle bracelet Heart tag bracelet was described by Sinkankas (1959), and a 308.81-carat, sherry-- colored, oval step-cut topaz is on exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. However, these are not the largest faceted topaz from the state; see below for the blue gems from Glen Cove in El Paso County.

the room or booth to visit Tiffany Rings for sale

Général — Par jiangsu @ 05:10

As they had done for many years, Ernie and Vera attended the Tucson Show this past February, sharing a tiffany on sale with Colorado collectors and close friends Lee and Bev McKinney. It was Ernie's last hurrah. Lee pushed Ernie's wheelchair around the motels and shows, but then Ernie rose and walked into the room or booth to visit Tiffany Rings for sale old choose Tiffany Bangles and inspect specimens. He thoroughly enjoyed himself.Ernie died at home on 16 March 2007, losing a wellfought battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Vera, brother Richard, daughters Linda and Barbara, three grandchildren, and a huge circle of mineral friends.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has acquired the former Tiffany Bracelets on sale collection of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. The academy recently sold the majority of its mineral collection to a consortium of mineral dealers, including Collector's Edge, Inc.; Kristalle; and Crystal Classics. They are working diligently to place important locality suites with appropriate museums; Carnegie, through the help of supporters and a generous purchase and donation, received all of the approximately five thousand cheap Tiffany Key Rings specimens.

The new acquisitions improve the breadth and depth of Carnegie's Pennsylvania holdings by filling in Tiffany Necklaces for sale localities that were not represented and by increasing its exhibit potential in a genre not known for its wealth of outstanding display-quality specimens. Significant specimens are already in the museum's newly renovated choose Tiffany Bracelets Hall of Minerals and Gems, and select pieces are being displayed at local and regional gem and mineral shows.

The new additions include a wealth of secondary minerals such as pyromorphite, cerussite, anglesite, and Tiffany Bangles on sale from the Phoenixville district of Chester County, beautiful amethyst and smoky quartz, beryl, "garnet," and schorl crystals from Delaware County, and magnetite and calcite from the mines of French Creek, also in Chester County. A large number of reference-quality mineral and rock samples are also included. Unfortunately, nearly all of the important pyrite specimens had suffered severe degradation after decades of oxidation during storage at the choose Tiffany Pendants, and many had been discarded.

Combined with Hillman Hall's current exhibits of Pennsylvania minerals and gems, featuring specimens on loan from the Bryon Brookmyer collection, the new specimens present to visitors the finest collection of Pennsylvania minerals in the nation. The renovated Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems opened in June of this year, just in time for an influx of summer visitors. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is not the only museum to benefit from the dispersal of specimens from the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences. As of this writing (early Tiffany Earrings for sale), the following museums have also been grateful recipients:

* The Franklin Mineral Museum and Sterling Hill Mining Museum are getting the entire suite of cheap Tiffany Cuff Links from New Jersey.

* The New York State Museum is getting the entire New York State collection.

* The Museo di Storia Naturale in Milan, Italy, is getting the entire Italian collection.

At least six other major U.S. institutions are looking at important suites. As additional placements are cheap tiffany jewellery, they will be reported in this column.

same feature with trails of fluorite hemispheres

Général — Par jiangsu @ 05:03

Rustemeyer (2000), in an interesting article on etch figures and dissolution forms seen in fluorite crystals, Tiffany Cuff Links in the caption for a photograph of one of these Indian specimens that the shape is due to dissolution, presumably of single crystals. In view of the radial structure observed in many examples, the absence of Tiffany Keys on sale tiffany pendants sale tiffany jewelry, and the manner in which these spherical fluorites have attached themselves to calcite crystals, it seems evident that such an origin cannot be taken seriously.

I have seen perhaps a half-dozen specimens in which rods of goethite have apparently grown within and extend cheap Tiffany Cuff Links the fluorite. The two best examples are illustrated in figures 17 and 18. Because of the transparency of the fluorite, the rods in these two pieces can be seen to continue well into the centers of the Tiffany Cuff Links sale hemispheres. The fact that the "roots" of the rods diverge from near the centers of the fluorite hemispheres suggests quite unambiguously that they grew as the fluorite grew, and the growth was divergent in nature. The goethite tiffany Tiffany Key Rings bracelets sale money clips continued to grow even after the fluorite did not, so the portion outside of the fluorite is fatter, and these can quite reasonably be considered goethite scepters. Other goethite has been found at Mahodari in acicular form associated with red fluorite and quartz (fig. 19).

At least one example has been found that reveals a crude octahedral form (fig. 20), as though the hemisphere was cheap Tiffany Key Rings sale Money Clips tiffany tiffany cuff links sale trying to evolve into a morphologically familiar form. This specimen differs from the other fluorites from the Deccan traps in that the crystals are quite transparent and have a distinct green color. It is reported to have come from Bahranpur, in Madhya Pradesh, the state just north of Maharashtra, and close to Jalgaon.

As if the obvious features of these strange fluorites are not puzzling enough, there are other phenomena tiffany tiffany money clips sale with them. They often tend to attach themselves to narrow channels along the more acute edges of scalenohedral calcite crystals or at the edges where faces meet at the more gentle angle (figs. 21-24). So-called skunks of discount Tiffany Bangles bangles sale white or cream-colored calcite crystals from Uruguay, having trails of amethyst crystals growing along three morphologically related crystal edges, are well Tiffany Money Clips sale (see cover, Rocks & Minerals, March/April 1997), but to see the same feature with trails of fluorite hemispheres, graduated in size and some even brick-red in color, does absolutely nothing to help one understand how such a symbiotic-appearing cheap Tiffany Key Rings has come about. Clearly, certain edges of calcite crystals are able to selectively attract the fluorite in this case, and amethystine quartz crystals in the case of true "skunks." Also from this general area, usually labeled only Nasik, one finds calcite crystals with tapering trails of what appears to be chalcedony attached to calcite crystals; however, in the examples I have seen these are centered on rhombohedral faces, instead of in channels on the tiffany bangles sale of scalenohedral crystals (fig. 25).

DRIPPING DIAMONDS: Russian diamonds, Arkansas diamonds, African diamonds: this issue has them all. Proving there is more to diamonds than just the "bling," Drs. Galina Anastasenko and Michael Leybov survey diamonds in their homeland of Russia; Jim Houran traces the history of the Jewell Gem, a 4.51-carat white diamond discount Tiffany Necklaces Earrings in 1963 in Arkansas; J. Michael Howard reviews a newly released DVD on Arkansas diamonds; and Anthony Kampf and Terry Huizing recount their adventures on a 2007 tour of the diamond mines in Namibia.Having a collecting adventure of his own this year was Paul Geffner who, with a group of friends, hit a series of gem and specimen pockets at the wellknown Jacksons Crossroads amethyst deposit in Wilkes County, Georgia. You can read a firsthand account of the find in this issue's Collector's Note column, beginning on page 550.

ADDING MINERAL NAMES to your word processor dictionary: In his Word to the Wise column in the discount Tiffany Rings/ October 2007 issue titled "Word(s) to the Wise-More Than 4,000 To Be Exact," John Rakovan mentioned that the new web-based International Mineralogical Association (IMA) official mineral list can be added to one's word processor as a custom dictionary and accessed by spellcheck. Instructions on how to do this (in a downloadable PDF file called "Mineral Dictionary for Word Processors") are available on the Rocks & Minerals Tiffany Necklaces Materials webpage: http://www.rocks andminerals.org/supplement.php. The step-by-step procedure was prepared by Rakovan. Now there's no excuse for not "getting it right," to quote John White's column title.ARTIST HONORED: Susan Robinson, author of the series of artist articles in Rocks & Minerals since 1987, received the Mining History Association's (MHA) 2008 Cherry Hunter Award at its annual conference in Chisholm, Minnesota, on 14 June. The award recognizes individuals for significant contributions to the preservation of mining history through art. Robinson received the award for her mining and mineral artwork as well as for promoting mining art through her many articles on mining artists in Rocks & Minerals.

The MHA is made up of individuals and organizations interested in mining history. Their backgrounds range from discount Tiffany Money Clips Rings to mine operators and from museum staff and others concerned with the preservation of historic sites or artifacts to individuals researching or writing. From March until June 2009, her work will be on display at the National Science Foundation headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. Before moving to Colorado, Eriksson was the mineral museum curator and an instructor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg as well as a consulting editor of Rocks & Minerals for many years. Examples of her art and dates for upcoming exhibitions are posted on her website: http:// www.susaneriksson.info.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: The Weis Earth Science Museum, in Menasha Wisconsin, honored June Culp discount Tiffany Cuff Links with a Tiffany Money Clips achievement award at The Wonderful World of Agates, an international extravaganza held in July at the museum. For details on Zeitner's many contributions to the Earth sciences field, see the Chips from the Quarry column in the May/June 2006 issue, which details her winning the 2005 Carnegie Mineralogical Award. As an aside, the agate weekend saw 350 registrants and 22 international speakers at the one-day seminar that preceded the show, and the show itself had more than 4,000 attendees-not bad for a firsttime event.

After some lapse of time we entered an adit

Général — Par jiangsu @ 09:10

I was walking among the street merchants and stone-seekers in the Praca Tiradente in Teofilo Otoni when suddenly a wide hand clapped me forcefully on the shoulder. I turned around - and it was Jean-Claude Nydegger! Happily we grasped each other's arms in the usual way. In Tucson, this fairly young and robust mine-owner had invited me to visit his "new" Santa Rosa discount Tiffany Necklaces. Unfortunately I had misplaced his card, and now I was extremely pleased at our fortuitous meeting in the busy, dynamic "capital city of gems" where I'd been on the lookout for him. What followed was one of the best of my many experiences in the mines of Brazil. While in the U.S., Jean-Claude had read in the Mineralogica! Record the combined reports of my Brazilian study and collecting tours and was very eager to take me to see his mine. Done! The next day Jean arrived at the Hotel Lancaster in Teofilo Otoni to pick me up in his cross-country vehicle. We stocked up on groceries and other necessities and then set out to drive directly to the mine.

As he drove the 30 km to Itambacuri, the jump-off point of our "mountain and valley drive" to Santa discount Tiffany discount tiffany, Jean-Claude chatted jovially in Portuguese and English. He had grown up in Switzerland and was good with languages - he could speak others as well. I urged him to pull up in front of the house of my good old friend Don Gomez de Rocha, and we thoroughly surprised the old man by our visit. Excitedly the former owner of the "old" Santa Rosa mine led us to seats in his garden, where we talked about old times. I had often been there with him, alone and with the groups I had led to Brazil, and I had long known about his "old" Santa Rosa mine, located in the southern part of a 15-km-long chain of hills. There the best multicolored Brazilian tourmaline of its time was "found" (i.e. taken by the most arduous labor out of the mountain), and in the Mineralogical Record previously I have mentioned the beautiful calcite "Rose of Santa Rosa," unique in the world. During this visit I gave Don Gomez a copy of that publication, hoping it would ease his pain in some degree. A few days previously he had fallen from the roof of his house and broken his leg - and yet he was as vital as ever, and animated in conversation.

But we had to move on! At first the drive felt like old times, when in good weather we had driven passenger cars to the "old" mine. We passed a waterfall, in whose cascade I had once very recklessly taken photographs and then glided through - coming out luckily on the other side of the furious spray. The red-brown laterite road soon turned into a Tiffany Key Rings Tiffany Pendants, eroded surface, and thereafter a dangerous track with deep potholes; the 40-cm-deep channels and projecting rocks were hard on the car and the passengers alike. The road is absolutely impassible during the three-month rainy season. Thus we labored on towards the mountain, the car's bouncing suspension turning our seats into trampolines. There was not enough room between our heads and the roof of the cab, but Jean-Claude didn't slacken the pace. I have never experienced quite such a "drive" to a mine!At last, on the summit of a hill, the ground grew smooth and the view spread out before us, taking in a huge area far and wide. In the distance the surroundings of the "old" mine of Don Gomez could be seen.

Not far below us now, the mica-laden dumps of the "new" Santa Rosa mine glistened in the sunlight. On the opposite hill slope, several levels of tunnel entrances were clearly visible, one above another in a straight vertical line. We moved a bit farther forward and finally came to a halt in the center of this remote mining camp. It was noon, and the miners were discount Tiffany Earrings a break in the shade of the simple buildings, and even the camp watchdog was sneaking away to hide from the mid-day heat. A little house with benches by the entrance stood there, and within it was a long table with chairs and a well-appointed kitchen where an old cook went industriously about her business. We parked our vehicle by the open front door, and soon the cook brought out complete table settings. Then she served a simple but good, traditional meal, after which the workers were allowed a short nap.Jean-Claude pointed out to me the several tiers of adits, some already extending more than 100 meters into the hill. He explained the geological sequence and the inclination of the gem-bearing pegmatite zone, and described the future plans for extending the workings. Looking around the area outside, we heard a muffled explosion in the distance and felt the ground tremble. After some lapse of time we entered an adit, and instantly sensed a sharp, caustic odor.

Jean-Claude led the way underground with a small lamp. I had not expected to be taken to the interior workings, and Tiffany Cuff Links I had heavy shoes on, I hadn't brought my hardhat, boots or lamp. I would suffer for this. Ahead of me in the darkness was an iron stake protruding horizontally from the wall. Jean-Claude, with his better light, was aware of it and swerved to avoid it, but I crashed into a corner of it with both shins, and my left elbow scraped against the rocky wall. I noticed that I was wounded, but it didn't hamper my inquisitiveness or my pleasure in taking photographs. The roar of the pneumatic hammer and the drills filled the air. In order to drill the shot holes, two men held a big drill against the working face. Time flew by while I was observing this work, and eventually I noticed that my legs were bleeding where they had struck the iron stake. To disinfect the wounds I brought out a little bottle of iodine and applied it.

reveal crucial information about phase transitions

Général — Par jiangsu @ 04:12

transforms into the denser polymorphs modified spinel (wadsleyite, beta phase) and spinel (ringwoodite, gamma phase) in the Earth's transition zone (1-4) and dissociates at pressures P > 23 GPa and temperatures T >=1600deg C to perovskite plus magnesiowuestite in the Earth's lower mantle (5). Majorite (Mg sub 4 Si sub 4 O sub 12 garnet) is a stable phase in the pressure range 19 to 24 GPa at temperatures between 1700deg and 2600deg C and cransforms to a perovskite-type structure at higher pressures (6). Along with experimental investigations at high choose Tiffany Key Rings Rings sale and temperatures, mineral assemblages in heavily shocked meteorites can reveal crucial information about phase transitions and high-pressure minerals (7-9). Unfortunately, our understanding of shock-induced phase transitions and the conditions of high pressure and temperature in shocked meteorites is limited by the fact that shock experiments do not produce such transformations. To understand the pressure and temperature conditions and the durations of shock events in chondrites, one must examine the minerals that crystallize from shock melts at high pressure as well as those formed by solid-state transformation. Shock melts in terrestrial and lunar rocks, for example, do not crystallize high-pressure minerals, whereas shock veins in chondrites do (8, 10). This difference suggests a distinction between the pressure-temperature histories of impact events on chondritic reduced tiffany and those on the Earth and moon.

The heavily shocked Sixiangkou meteorite contains black veins, ranging in width from 0.1 to 2 mm, that consist of two Tiffany Money Clips sale: (i) mostly unfractured, rounded, large polycrystalline grains of ringwoodite and low-Ca majorite (15 to 300 mu m in diameter), plus diaplectic plagioclase glass (10 to 60 mu m in diameter), and (ii) a fine-grained matrix (0.5- to 4-mu m-diameter grains) of Al-, Na-, Ca-, and Cr-bearing majorite and dark isotropic material constituting more than 80% of the veins by volume (Fig. 1) (8). (Figure 1 omited.) The fine-grained part of the vein is sprinkled with kamacite and troilite blebs or metaltroilite eutectic intergrowths. The isotropic material was initially interpreted to be silicate glass that was quenched with the majorite-pyrope solid solution from a silicate liquid (8). We used analytical transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy, and electron microprobe analyses (EMPA) to characterize the shock-vein minerals, which allowed us to constrain the reduced Tiffany Bangles of the shock event on the L6 chondrite parent body.

have the same compositions as olivine and low-Ca pyroxene, respectively, outside of the black shock veins (Table 1). (Table 1 omitted.) Micro-Raman, TEM, and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) investigations showed that these grains are single-phase ringwoodite (gamma-phase) and low-Ca majorite, respectively (11). Ringwoodite Tiffany Cuff Links sale aggregates consist of grains ranging from 2 to 6 mu m in size with abundant stacking faults and dislocations (Fig. 2). (Figure 2 omitted.) The stacking fault densities are similar to those seen in ringwoodites from other meteorites (7) and synthetic ringwoodites (2, 3). Highly disordered spinelloid structures, such as those commonly found in partial-transformation experiments (3, 11), were not observed. The average density of dislocations in ringwoodite is 8 X 10 sub 12 m sup -2 . The majorite aggregates contain grains up to 10 mu m in size that are subdivided by well-organized walls of dislocations. This subgrain structure, similar to that seen in natural garnets from ultradeep-mantle xenoliths (12) and synthetic majorites (13), indicates plastic deformation by dislocation creep. Climb of dislocations into subgrain boundaries is a diffusion-controlled process that requires significant time at high reduced Tiffany Bracelets Key Rings sale (14). There is no evidence of twinning or tweed textures, which are common in tetragonal majorite (13, 15, 16), and all of the SAED patterns collected were consistent with cubic symmetry.

tell us more than that the Jews who purchased

Nevertheless, they remained Jews, as many of the objects, often commissioned for their own use, make clear. On view are beautiful ketubot and Hebrew wedding poems, bibles, prayer books, haggadot, Kiddush cups, a silver traveling Chanukah lamp, and a highly ornate miniature Torah ark, encrusted with colored glass and choose Tiffany Necklaces Bracelets sale adornments such as a lute-playing angel. Even non-ceremonial objets d'art were often decorated with Jewish symbols, thus blurring the lines of sacred and profane -- the most spectacular example on display being a porcelain coffee set from 1780, each piece bearing the Hebrew inscription, "For a good life, Madame Kaulla from Hechingen."

Whether as gifts or for personal use, all of these items tell us more than that the Jews who purchased them were choose Tiffany Rings. They indicate that these Jews were, by virtue of their proximity to European court life, in the vanguard of communal change on a historic scale. Their exposure to and emulation of aristocratic manners and taste would be the Tiffany Pendants sale nearly all European Jews would eventually take.

The Court Jews led precarious lives, often taking personal risks and, even more often, financial ones. The wealth rarely lasted beyond a generation -- the Rothschilds being a rare exception. Joseph Oppenheimer was hanged after the death of his benefactor, while Esther Liebmann was imprisoned after the death of her protector, King Friedrich I of choose Tiffany Money Clips Earrings sale, in 1713 and fined for accruing "disproportionate profits."

The lasting significance of Court Jews in Jewish history is not their money, for that proved ephemeral. Rather, they served as agents of increasing secularization for the larger Jewish world. Despite the labyrinthine intrigues against each other, and their often unseemly behavior, they also offer themselves as role models, indicating how it is possible to combine wealth and communal loyalty. Despite their enormous wealth -- it should not be forgotten that Mayer Amschel and Gutele Rothschild literally never left the ghetto -- Court Jews, for the most part, used their choose Tiffany Cuff Links to Tiffany Necklaces sale the lot of their poorer co-religionists. This exhibition provides us the opportunity not only to marvel at the heights these Jews attained, but to ponder the deeper meaning of Jewish philanthropy, communal responsibility and success.
